4 different types of rest to support you to live, love and lead more vibrantly.

At this time of year, we need to be extra vigilant about topping up our reserves. Rest is essential AND unique to us all and different types of rest are required at different times.

What kind of rest do you need to be focusing on at this time?

#1 PHYSICAL REST

Resting your body and giving it chance to repair and restore.

e.g. napping, yin yoga, meditation, slow walks in nature, massage.

#2: COGNITIVE REST

Activities where you get out of your thinking brain - allowing your brain to rest, preventing overwhelm and supporting you to switch off at the end of the day.

e.g. mindful activities such as gardening, painting or photography. Or try journalling / free writing for 10 minutes to empty your thoughts onto paper.

#3 EMOTIONAL REST

Lifting the weight of your emotional load which is especially difficult if you are an empath and take on other people’s emotions.

e.g. sharing how you feel with a friend, setting boundaries so you are not absorbing other people’s emotions.

#4 SENSORY REST

This is a toughie as often when we think we are resting we are adding to sensory overwhelm with things like TV or our phones. Consciously depriving ourselves of sensory stimulation can be crucial to real, restorative rest.

e.g. try a digital detox, have a bath instead of watching TV one night, observe your scroll time.

However you are feeling this week, giving yourself permission to regularly rest is a fundamental part to more living, loving and leading more vibrantly. And that is a desire for all of us right?

No-one is doing their best work, creating their best ideas, feeling their most connected or inspiring other humans to be their best when they are running on fumes.

Identifying and connecting with different ways to rest is such an essential tool in your kit box.

Can you identify one form of rest that you need to be focusing on in January?

PS. For me I am going to focus on sensory rest and become really proactive about tech-free time in the evening. A brilliant excuse to sit on my new balcony and stare at the sea!
